Dane Noakes, Finance Transformation at XL Group

Dane was the Data Programme Manager and Data Change Management lead as part of a larger Finance Transformation project at XL Group from December 2012 through to June 2014.  The budget for external spend for the Data workstream was approx. $15m PA with approx. 70 external FTE.  He managed the key elements of the Dataprogramme which included Data Conforming for all the core underwritingsource systems at XL, the development and implementation of key processes for Mastering Data using Data Relationship Management (DRM), an Oracle tool, and linking these developments to theEnterprise Data Governance framework and Data Quality development. Dane was based in London and the Data team included XL groups and significant third party (Deloitte & Cognizant) resources based in the US and India with regular collation, challenge, reporting, resource management, project planning and the direction of all relevant activities across these territories. He played a significant role insuccessfully bringing together all the required elements on schedule and on budget and added value by coordinating progress and overlap across the wider FT programme. Dane was also responsible for Change management and developing the training programme for the implementation of the DRM tool. This programme was successfully implemented, with over 240 users trained using and combination of Instructor led training and Webinar technology. In addition to these activities, he also managed the relationship with the senior stakeholders within the FT Programme, across the other workstreams and coordinated interactions with the Enterprise Data Governance team. Dane is highly professional in his approach and can interact with all levels of management while maintaining a good balance of perspective, a measure of humility and a focus on the ultimate deliverable.

Q1. How do we source associates and is there a selection process ?
All of our associates are experienced project managers working in the London Insurance Market and have either worked with us before or come with heavy weight endorsements from previous clients. In depth interviews, peer group and reference checks are undertaken before a new associate can join our network.

Q2. How would an associate be onboarded onto your project ?
Once we have discussed your requirements, we would look at available resources and assess how best to suit your needs. We would then introduce you to the most suitable associate and determine best method and timing for the most effective project start.

Q3. How do we ensure that our associates operate to good standards ?
We would not deploy any resources unless we were confident they can deliver.  We do recommend, however, regular weekly checkpoints with you at the start of the project, less frequent as the project matures.  This enables us to establish a feedback process to maintain effective working and opportunities to remediate if required.
